A small stereo pair for parallel viewing generated by POVRay.
To view an image like this in 3d, you need to FOCUS your eyes on the screen, but CONVERGE them at infinity.
Stare at the pair of images for a few seconds, and then relax your eyes. Instead of the two cubes, you will start to see double - and your immediate reaction will be to stare again, bringing the four cubes back to two. If you force yourself to relax your eyes (that's a bit of a contradiction isn't it) the four cubes will become three as the two central cubes merge into a single image.
At this moment your eyes are CONVERGED at infinity - and they are probably also focussed there, so the three cubes will appear blurred.
The trick is to force them back into FOCUS on the screen without losing the impression of seeing three cubes, the middle one floating clearly above the chequered plane.
Once you have mastered this technique, you can view progressively bigger stereo pairs and enjoy a whole new view of 3d imagery.
