Tips and Tricks
To speed up rendering as much as possible on the Mac
Hardware issues aside, these are some of the things that you can do to speed up render times during initial scene development:
- reduce the size of the preview image
- use the quick_color keyword or simplified textures
- turn off the preview display
- suspend or disable screen savers
- avoid saving to network drives whenever possible
- make sure POV-Ray is operating in the foreground
How to use TrueType fonts in the text object
POV-Ray since version 3.0 supports TrueType text objects. In previous versions of POV-Ray for Mac OS you first had to convert the fonts before using them with POV-Ray. Since version 3.5 it will automatically locate the font for you and just use it based on the name. However, be aware that for many fonts only the ASCII characters will work as expected. Make sure to read the general documentation about other changes to the usage of the text object.
Known Problems
For technical reasons the Mac OS graphical user interface was not ready at the time of the version 3.7.0 release.
Note: A graphical user interface is planned for future releases.
