A listing of modelling program sites in alphabetical order.

Powerful 3D modeller supporting POV and many other formats.

Animation Editor for Realistic Object movements. AERO is a simulation program based on rigid body systems. With the built-in 3D editor you can create a virtual scene consisting of spheres, boxes (cuboids), cylinders and plains. These objects may be connected with links like spring, damper, rod and joint.

Anim8or is a 3D modeling and character animation program by R. Steven Glanville. It supports output to .3ds format.

Art of Illusion is a free, open source 3D modelling and rendering studio. It is written entirely in Java, and should be usable on any Java Virtual Machine which is compatible with JDK 1.1 or later.

Ayam is a free 3D modelling environment for the RenderMan interfaceModelling. This link is to version 1.9, released 12. Feb 2006

BRL-CAD is a free open source constructive solid geometry modeling system that includes an interactive geometry editor, ray tracing support for rendering and geometric analysis, network distributed framebuffer support, image and signal-processing tools. Executables available for 32-bit MS Windows (NT/2000/XP), All BSD Platforms (FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD/Apple Mac OS X), All POSIX (Linux/BSD/UNIX-like OSes), FreeBSD, Linux, OS X, Solaris, Win2K, WinXP, SGI IRIX. The package is also distributed in source code form.

Allows you to build 3D VRML models from 2D images.

A parametric 3D modeler based on the OpenGL library. Understands lparser files and is able to write them out as Wavefront OBJ-files.

2D+3D cad program for Linux, Amiga, and NetBSD. Supports POV-Ray output.

Free 3D mdl prog. Use for house/build dwgs has .dxf/3dmf in/out

Digital Clay is a very low cost software that allows you to design 3-D shapes in a manner like clay work. Since it is very easy-to-use software, beginners who don't have any knowledge of 3-D computer graphics can easily work with it! Last updated in 2002

3D Polygon Modeler with some nice organic modelling capabilities.

A fully functional, realtime 3D editor. Available for Windows 3.1, 95 and NT

An interactive 3D geometry viewing program. Last update 1998

IRIT is a solid modeling environment that allows one to model basic, primitive based, models using Boolean operations as well as freeform surface's based models. It has several unique features such as strong symbolic computation, support of trivariate volumes and triangular patches, high portability, and numerous unique applications such as surface layout decomposition, metamorphosis of curves and surfaces, and artistic line art drawings of parametric and implicit forms. Several OS platforms are supported - see page for details.

K-3D is a crossplatform (only compiled for linux), opensource modeler that seems to have a tool based/deformation based paradigm(Much like elasticity).

Your Resource for Web3D, VRML and Virtual Worlds on the Macintosh.

OpenGL Viewer for Mathematica has POV-Ray export

Meshwork is a 3D triangle-mesh modeling program for MacOS. It is designed especially for making compact, efficient objects for use in 3D games or on the web. MacOS trimesh modeller exports to POV-Ray (and others). Last update 2003

Aimed at providing a complete modeling/animation package for the GNU/Linux operating system. Last version from June 2002

2D-3D Cad/Solid Modeller Freeware several nice features

ImageWare Development releases ModelMagic3D, an easy to use, interactive, 3D modeling package used to create OpenGL scenes rendered in real-time. Build 2D and 3D objects from pre-defined primitives, add text, lighting, lens flare effects, shadows, audio effects, particle simulation and animation. Features include texture mapping of BMP, GIF, JPG, and PNG, TGA images or play AVI movies as textures mapped to any 3D surface. Import and export *.3ds and *.obj files. Build Web pages, 3D Screen Savers and other graphic applications.

Panorama is a framework for 3D graphics production. It is part of the GNU project

Professional and interactive 2D/3D Modeler. Innovative Boolean 3D Algorithm, hierarchical POV-Ray 3.0 Texture Editor, programmable Interface and More. For Windows 9x/NT4/2000/ME/XP

PolyEdit: Japanese, made by the Doga team. A polygon editor with various 3D export capabilities.

For use with Mathematica. View or animate in front-end or otherwise. Has a partially supported POV-Ray exporter.

Start with sketches, drawings, physical models, or only an idea Rhino provides the tools you need to accurately model your designs ready for rendering, animation, drafting, analysis, and manufacturing. Has export support for POV-Ray. This is a commercial program.

X-Windows based, constraint-oriented three dimensional wireframe modeller and Scene EDitor/Animator original page. Sceda is a patched version of sced , the cool three dimensional modeller from Stephen Chenney. Looks very old (1995) X-based Unix only.
